PETEETNEET GROUNDS BEAUTIFICATION

    The time is fast approaching for the annual flower planting at the Peteetneet Museum.  We would like to encourage church groups, youth groups, scouts, Payson City employees, PPP members and any other interested individuals to come and help us plant flowers and beautify our grounds for the coming summer and fall season.
    The more volunteers, the less time it takes to get everything planted.  The tentative date for planting will be either May 7 or 14.  This date is subject to the weather and the delivery of flowers.  The exact time will be made available as it gets closer.  Watch the Chronicle, our Peteetneet Blogspot or you may call Ray Wilson at 801-465-4192 or Janeen Dean at the Peteetneet Museum at 801-465-5265.
    Each volunteer will be provided with flowers to plant, but it is asked that each person bring their own hand tools, shovels, etc.  We are encouraging groups to adopt a planter to weed and care for during the summer.  We appreciate the volunteers who take time to come and assist us in this activity.

ANTIQUE AND VINTAGE EXPO

We invite you and your family to come to the Peteetneet Antique & Vintage Expo on May 14, 2016.  The expo will have vendor booths from all over selling their antique, vintage, homemade crafts, and food.  Don’t forget to bring that “one” item in your home that you KNOW is worth some money.  The Peteetneet Antique & Vintage Expo will have nationally renowned antique appraisers on hand to give you a verbal history and value of your unique treasure; appraisal will be $5.00 per item.
   All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit our beautiful Historic Peteetneet Museum & Cultural Arts Center which was established in 1901.  The actual building began in 1897 as a solution to replace four, one-room schools existing at that time.  In 1988, the school was restored and turned into a cultural center and museum offering plenty of ongoing activities and instruction to the community. 
Each year volunteers donate almost 12,000 hours of their time to share the museum with visitors.  The museum and cultural arts center hosts over 34,000 visitors each year.

ANTIQUE AND VINTAGE APPRAISAL EXPO

Have you heard the news ?  Payson  will be an "Antique and Vintage Appraisal Exposo" in May at the Peteetneet Museum.  Some nationally renowned antique appraisers will be on hand to give you an idea of the history and value of your unique treasure.  Appraisals will be only $5.00 which will be donated to the Peteetneet.  Now is the time to start thinking  of what you want to bring.  There will be booths and vendors so you can get the supplies you need to repair and finish your own treasure-or purchase one that already created.  There will be food vendors and lots of great booths.  If you would like to be put on an email list with further information on vendor booths, email pattyl@payson.org

PAYSON SENIOR CITIZENS WOODCARVING EXHIBIT

The Payson Senior Citizens Annual Woodcarving Exhibit is now on display at the Peteetneet Museum.  This annual exhibit has been on display during January and will continue through the month of February.  The exhibit was started many years ago by Gene Colvin.  He oversaw the wood carvers at the Senior Citizens Center and was also  a member of  the Payson Historical Society and served as a Trustee of People Preserving Peteetneet.  Since the death of Mr. Colvin.  Bob Dailey has worked with the carvers at the Senior Center and has graciously continued the program that Mr. Colvin established at the Peteetneet.  The Peteetneet and our visitors look forward each year to see the many new carvings displayed by our local seniors.  We are amazed at the talent and hard work that goes into each carving.

The Peteetneet Arts Council is so excited to feature Rebecca Lee Perry's art through the month of February. There will be an Artists Reception this Friday, January 15 from 6 to 8 P.M., at the Peteetneet Museum. It's free to the public and will be a treat to your eyes as well as your soul! Her many talents have taken her to various parts of the world where she helped with the murals in L.D.S. Temples. She went to Kenya with her husband in 2006 where she took photos and painted them. These are some of her outstanding works.

Former PPP President Passes Away

Former Payson City Mayor, Past President of People Preserving Peteetneet and one of the main individuals who helped save and restore the Historic Peteetneet School,  passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016. A viewing will take place this Friday, followed by funeral services on Saturday. 

CALIFORNIA MISSION BELL

CALIFORNIA MISSION BELL

This mission bell was salvaged from one of the 21 missions established by the Franciscan Order in the late 1700s and early 1800s in early California.  Most of the missions collapsed or were destroyed and a few of the original  ones remained.  Many have been rebuilt in recent years and their bells were recast  from molds of the original bells.  This bell was probably made in Spain in the late 1700s and installed in the mission after 1790.

The bell was given to Dale and Gloria Barnett many years ago by John (Dutch) Patten who had salvaged the bell.  He was an uncle of Dale's.  Dutch was born in Payson.  He also gave the Barnetts other historical items:  two oxen yokes, oxen shoes, old bridle bits, and an Indian papoose cradle.

The Barnetts decided the bell  should become part of the collection of the Peteetneet Museum.  It was donated to the Peteetneet along with the small bell tower to house it and the plaques that sits in front of the bell tower.
